What TapAttend is

TapAttend is conference attendance tracking for graduate medical education (GME) residency programs. Coordinators check residents in at required conferences — by tapping an NFC badge or entering it manually — so programs can track ACGME attendance-percentage compliance.

What we collect

  • Name and email address, for you (staff) and for residents in your program
  • PGY (training) year and program/institution affiliation
  • Attendance records: which conference, when, and how a check-in was recorded (NFC badge tap or manual entry)
  • An NFC card identifier assigned to a resident's badge — this identifies the physical badge, not a person independent of your program's own records

Why we collect it

Solely to run the attendance-tracking feature itself: recording check-ins, computing ACGME attendance percentages, and giving coordinators and program directors visibility into their own residents' records. We don't use this data for advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

Who can see it

Only the coordinators and program directors within your own program and institution. Data is isolated per institution and program at the database level — someone at a different hospital or in a different program cannot see your residents' records. We never sell this data, and we don't share it with third parties except the infrastructure providers that host the service (Supabase for the database, Vercel for hosting), who process it only on our behalf to run the app.

How long we keep it

Attendance records are kept for the duration of a resident's training and afterward as part of the program's own compliance history, similar to any other academic record. A coordinator or program director can deactivate a resident's account or contact us to request deletion.

Your device and the iOS app

The TapAttend iOS app reads NFC badges using Apple's CoreNFC framework and stores a small offline queue on-device (using standard iOS storage) so a check-in isn't lost if your connection drops mid-conference — that queue syncs to the server and clears once it does. The app does not track you and does not use advertising identifiers.
